@christopherandersonphoto of @Magnum Photos photographed Stellan Parr in his 453-square-foot studio apartment on the penthouse floor of 8 Spruce Street, a Frank Gehry building in downtown #Manhattan. The building stands out among New York City's new skyscrapers because it’s rental-only — none of the units are for sale. Stellan’s apartment was designed to be a guest or nanny’s room for one of the other penthouses, but instead building management rented it to Stellan, a tattooed and soft-spoken 33-year-old who’s studying to be a physician assistant. He says he pays rent “in the low thousands” and is perhaps the only person of (somewhat) modest means who lives at such great heights in New York. His view takes in the Statue of Liberty, the curve of the East River, @oneworldtrade and the @911memorial pools. Sometimes, Stellan leaves his room to surprised glances from his neighbors.
