? It’s not quite home sweet home, but these “amphibian rescue pods” will keep frogs safe from the deadly fungal disease that has swept through their native habitat until scientists can find a cure. The Gamboa Amphibian Research and Conservation Center, which opened in 2015, comprises seven shipping containers outfitted with racks of tanks complete with UV lights, filtered water, and automated misting systems. In addition the frogs, the pods—which were once used to transport ice cream, coffee beans, flowers and pharmaceuticals around the world—today support generous colonies of flies, crickets and other invertebrates to feed the frogs.
