I have been to Turkey several times and have gotten to know the country well. I was sent there twice by National Geographic Magazine. I have been all over the country and observed its transformation and modernization as well as the rise of religious figures in society. In the villages, tradition has always maintained pride of place. In the province of Mugla, near Milas, I caught sight of this elderly woman with a proud bearing observing the quiet bustle around her​ from her doorway.
