On Wednesday morning on Long Island, a band of ballplayers got together to mark the 55th anniversary since the season Yankee outfielder Roger Maris shattered Babe Ruth’s single-season home-run record. As members of the Long Island Senior Softball Association, many of them remember this bit of history vividly. “I saw Maris hit the home run on TV,” said 80-year-old Joe Friedman, of Oceanside (not pictured). “I remember sitting at home.
