Kay Rogozinksi, 97, and her daughter, Janice Tkacz, 62, sat outside their home in the trendy Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland. Kay told photographer @jeffswensen that she has spent her entire life in the house, which is worth much more today than it was when the neighborhood fell on hard times in the 1970s and ’80s. As Republicans gather in #Cleveland this week to nominate @ドナルド・トランプ for president, the United States is in the thick of searing debates over Islamic terrorism, race and policing, gun violence and immigration. The 2 convention hosts, both in #RustBelt swing states, spotlight something the 2 candidates rarely discuss: the plight of America’s cities. Cleveland and Philadelphia, once symbols of American industrial might and prosperity, are today among the poorest cities in the nation. #Cleveland has the third-highest poverty rate among cities with more than 100,000 residents, and exceedingly high rates of “concentrated poverty” — poor people living in poor neighborhoods. This #nytweekender, as the @gop prepares to gather in Cleveland, and one week before the @demconvention in Philadelphia, we’re sharing photos by @jeffswensen and @hlswift. #NYTRNC
