Prada’s “fish-scale” dress from Autumn-Winter 2011-12 unites both hand and machine techniques to luminescent effect. A machine-sewn base of silk organdy provides a strong foundation onto which opalescent plastic paillettes have been hand-embroidered with clear beads, so that each paillette lightly swings away from the body. Through this Prada hybrid of hand and machine, the dress reacts as fluidly as a fish in water. On view through September 5 at the @メトロポリタン美術館 as part of the #ManusxMachina exhibition.
