Met @unitednations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon today. He completes his second term as UNSG soon, and we are honoured that he is making a farewell visit to Singapore.
@nus_singapore conferred an Honorary Doctor of Letters on Mr Ban for his efforts promoting sustainable development and global peace and security. Glad that his @sgsmu lecture yesterday was well attended - 3,500 people came!
The UN is important to us. It is part of the international order that enables countries to live in peace, resolve conflicts, and tackle global issues like sustainable development and climate change. Without the UN, it would be much tougher for small countries to protect ourselves in the international arena.

Singapore is active in the UN. We helped to form the Forum of Small States (FOSS), a group of 100+ countries who work together to make our voices heard. This is how a small country can make a contribution and advance our interests in the world. - LHL (MCI Photo by Terence Tan)
