One afternoon in mid-August, @markhartman took the train to Coney Island, Brooklyn, and started walking, camera in hand. Since then, he has walked the same route nearly every day: east along the boardwalk beyond @lunaparknyc, down to the water, along the shore, just beyond Steeplechase Pier and back to the boardwalk. And repeat. His goal is to connect with the people who catch his eye. “Love, loss, the spectrum of human emotion — I’m trying to show that,” he said. When he took this photo, @markhartman first spotted Eric, center, with his daugher, Heaven. He saw a strong father figure in Eric, who he photographed here with Heaven and his 3 goggle-sporting sons: Bless, left, Levi and Eric, Jr. The family was visiting Coney Island from their home in Brooklyn.
