Guillermo Del Toro has a deep-seated love and admiration for insects. To him, they represent “uncomplicated, horrible, unstoppable nature ...they are perfection, but they are not a perfection that is pleasing.” For “Guillermo Del Toro: At Home with Monsters,” LACMA worked closely with the maestro director to select permanent collection pieces to supplement and contextualize his unique personal collection. Here we see an absurd pairing, an Aztec insect effigy (circa 1200-1500) and a “Kaiju Parasite” from the film Pacific Rim (2013).
