How many pairs of Ruby Slippers were in Dorothy's closet? Between 6-10 may have been made for production of "The Wizard of Oz." The pair in our collection came here in 1979, donated by an anonymous donor who purchased the pair at a famous MGM auction. Here are the stories of three others: ? Curly-toed pair: The "Arabian test pair" had curly toes and more complicated beading. They were not used in the movie. ? The missing pair: A private collector's pair was stolen in 2005 while on display in Minnesota. ? The pair that will be donated to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences museum changed hands in 1981 and is owned by a group of benefactors including Leonardo DiCaprio.
