Many years ago I used to spend a fair bit of time at Formby Point near Liverpool, UK photographing the red squirrels there. At that time there was a fox that would often show up in the car park, doubtless habituated to the presence of people and happy to benefit from all of the tit-bits that it could lay its paws on. When he was done scrounging and his belly was full he would head off back into the woods and this is when I would discretely follow him. On this occasion he decided to settle down for a sleep in a pool of sunlight and so I settled down close by, eager to ensure that Mr Fox stayed nice and relaxed. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to try and capture images such as these with a fox that wasn’t familiar with, and relatively comfortable in the presence of people and so it was fortunate that I was able to capture a relatively unusual image of this iconic UK species.
