I had a really enriching morning with a close family member over coffee and conversation. And was sharing about how I feel myself going through an inner growth spurt and that my likes, dislikes, preferences and viewpoints are beginning to change as well. His immediate response was, "I love it when you go through these changing seasons because more of who you are comes to the surface and that is so beautiful and exciting to see." Wow. I'm not sure if he knew this but it set the (needed) tone for me. I think I feel both excited and trepidatious when I'm going through a transformation because it usually reveals where I need to say goodbye to aspects of my life in order to welcome more of what is healthy and whole. And the older I get, the more I see how important it is to surround yourself with those who *want* to be in your life versus those who "need" you. Generally speaking, I have observed that the first group will celebrate and encourage you as you move through the ebb and flow of seasons, whereas the second group will feel threatened, punish or even try to make you feel guilty for changing (which is a form of gas lighting btw). One is rooted in love, respect and freedom and one is rooted in fear, control and manipulation. As I move into the precipice of a new year, three words really resonate: value, health, freedom. It is time to pick up the keys laying right in front of me and start making choices that empower me, and not just for me, but for my son and the generations behind us. For it is never too late to make a new change or dream a new dream or begin a new adventure. ❤️ •
