Photo by @FransLanting It took us several hours of hiking on steep terrain to find the Hirwa family of mountain gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. But when we did, we were treated to an unforgettable experience when the female known as Kabatwa showed us her newborn twins. Twins are extremely rare in mountain gorillas—only five sets have been recorded in the last 40 years. There are fewer than 800 mountain gorillas left in the wild, and every one is precious. We salute the superb rangers and guides of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park for looking after these extraordinary creatures.
