Video by @Joel Sartore | This American crow, named 'Handsome', was rescued from a park in Lincoln, NE as a juvenile, where it was following people around, looking for hand-outs. Crows are highly intelligent and social, and if raised by people from a young age, will imprint on them, which greatly reduces or eliminates their fear of their natural predators. It was assumed that someone tried to raise him and then either released him unprepared for a life in the wild, or he escaped from them. Not being socialized with other crows, he instead sought out another human to aid in his survival. If he had not be rescued, this surely would have led to his death.

During his stay @newildliferehab, he has learned to eat a natural diet and indulge his curiosity and need to interact with his surroundings, while also learning to interact with other crows in rehabilitation. He will hopefully be able to be released into the wild with his adopted crow family this spring. If he cannot be released, he will remain with NWRI as a "foster crow," helping to successfully raise future crow nestlings for a life in the wild.
