This was my Sunday afternoon carry that accompanied me on a little excursion to a quaint country town. Our plans were slightly thwarted upon discovering that our favorite mom and pop's bakery was closed as well as the old fashioned toy store. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as my son was able to consciously work through his disappointment and make an intentional decision to "have a positive attitude and find a different adventure" as he beautifully put it. We ended up discovering a small little eatery with an array of books for loungers to enjoy including a decent kid's selection. And we walked and raced down streets and side streets and had more conversations, some with words and some with no words needed. Nothing was bought except for our food and a homemade chocolate chip cookie that we finally found before making the trek back home. These are my favorite kind of days. When the detours actually become the gift. Wishing everyone a wonderful week out there and that some magical detours find you too. •
