The blossoming cherry trees that ring the Tidal Basin in #Washington have symbolized the arrival of spring for nearly a century. But this year, they're a little off schedule. The @nps says the pink and white blossoms could reach their peak as soon as March 14 — 3 weeks earlier than normal. If the flowers indeed pop on that date, it will be the earliest bloom on record. (The current record, set in 1990: March 15.) But the blossoms aren’t the only sign of wacky and warming weather this year. In Texas, flowers and trees are in bloom well ahead of schedule. Chicago has had only dustings of snow. And in New York state, maple producers are starting to tap their trees 2 months early. @tjkp photographed these budding Yoshino #cherrytrees yesterday in the nation’s capital. #?
