A male Barbary sheep at @ParcoNaturaViva in Bussolengo, Italy.
This species is native to arid, rocky, mountainous environments in North Africa. They are nomadic, constantly traveling and grazing throughout mountain ranges. These sheep are incredibly agile, with the ability to jump 7 feet into the air from a standing position. Their primary natural predators were once Barbary lions, Barbary leopards, and caracals. However, as those big cats are largely gone today, humans are now their main threat. The Barbary sheep is currently listed as vulnerable on the IUCN red list, mainly due to poaching and habitat loss.
The opportunity to photograph this animal was made possible by @greenteenteam, an organization promoting youth involvement in nature and wildlife conservation.
