The sol doc river, roaring it's way down the valley towards the Pacific Ocean. The river is primarily snow melt fed from the Olympic Mountains, high a above the forest floor, the #solducriver is one of the main river arteries on the western side of #olympicnationalpark and runs through the densely moss covered #hohrainforest, a place that averages 140 inches of rainfall per year. Precipitation is holding consistent in the park, but in recent decades climate change and rising heat index have resulted in a briefer snow season, bringing in an earlier rain season at higher elevations. This means a more rapid snow melt in the mountains which is bringing in floods to the valleys below. Early melt out means a longer dry season, hard times for alpine animals and reduced river flow for salmon and trout migration and nesting zones. Photographed #onassignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック
