Courtship and pair-bonding is very important in hornbills, because once the female enters her nest cavity in a tree, the male will provision her and her chick for the next several months. The female (on left, with pale eye ring) must therefore choose a very reliable man! I’ve been in Thailand searching for the endangered Helmeted Hornbill, but had more luck with this spectacular species.
