Postcard from after 1907, part of our Photographic History Collection. The Smithsonian started collecting photography-related material during the days of William Smillie.
Smillie (who, we assume, never had to be reminded to smile for photos) was the Smithsonian's first and chief photographer from 1871 to 1917. According to @smithsonianarchives his first documented purchase for the Smithsonian was of a daguerreotype apparatus used by Samuel F. B. Morse. ?????? Have a photogenic weekend!
