This stunning water fountain doesn't spout champagne, but it sure looks like it ought to. This ornate brass water fountain was used in J.L. Hudson's flagship department store in Detroit, Michigan, in 1911. The store was 25 stories tall and occupied an entire city block.
Inside, the store was elegant, replete with chandeliers, murals, floral arrangements, and this water fountain. Providing customers with everything they needed would encourage them to shop all day long, visiting on-site restaurants, libraries, barber shops, and auditoriums.
We hope you discover some functional elegance like this water fountain this weekend, history fans!
