Please read??? I remember a time in high school when a girl complimented me on my thigh gap. She was mesmerized at the hole between my legs when my feet were pressed together, as if entering that hole would take her to Narnia or something. Little did she know that what she praised about me was derived from starving myself in nourishment, and in love. I couldn’t take this compliment seriously. I knew the making behind the material - that thigh gap was made in a stone cold vicinity where nothing was appreciated, and everything was scrutinized. A compliment wouldn’t remove heinous self-talk that sabotaged any ounce of “quality” I symbolized. No thigh gap could ever fill the emptiness I felt. Clearly, my body shape was not going to resolve anything. Compliments are grand. They make us feel beautiful, but the extension of this beauty ranges by what we choose to magnify. A body shape may be beautiful, but it isn’t the greatest story teller. Humans are continual novels that deserve better narration. Human to human, I ask of you to compliment hearts over silhouettes more often than not. Tell your friend the size of her compassion is unmatchable. Tell your boyfriend his optimism is inspirational. Tell your teacher you appreciate his selflessness. Remind people of what truly makes them loved - maybe in this way, we will magnify on what truly matters.??? #BeMoreHuman #SelfLoveSunday #FightForGrowth
