Photo by @Tim Laman. Diver/conservationist Kevan Mantell takes on the dangerous challenge of removing an abandoned longline tangled on a rocky seamount in a strong current. I take my hat off to him – he succeeded in cleaning up this mess. This is in Coiba National Park, Panama, where illegal fishing is a problem despite its protected status. Coiba National Park contains 38 islands and is a highly biodiverse region above and below water. Coiba Island was a penal colony for almost 100 years until 10 years ago, and I am working with @ChristianZiegler and others to fuse scientific exploration and photography to tell the positive new story of its rich biodiversity, support Coiba’s #conservation. Check out the Nat Geo online article: ‘How a Deadly Prison Island Became a Natural Paradise’ by going to the link in my profile. #Panama, #Coiba, @thephotosociety, @natgeocreative.
