Ernst Ludwig #Kirchner’s reinvigoration of the Germanic tradition of #landscape remained an important subject throughout his career and marked him out as one of the most inventive and influential painters of his era. In this vibrant verdant work, swathes of unmodulated paint of intense richness give this view of a #forest path its distinctive #Expressionist style. Waldstrasse was painted in #Dresden during the height of the #Brcke movement – a group who focused on the sensations that painting could provoke and took inspiration from the art and design of primitive and exotic cultures.
