It's Flashback Friday! Here is a photo from my physical archival project. Party crew, Together We Stand at a house party somewhere in San Gabriel Valley in 1993.
I am extremely grateful to be in a position where people can trust me with their material and stories. This photo along with photo albums decorated with party flyers and magazine cutouts and other artifacts have been donated by former party crew members. This photo was donated by Eileen Torres who was from party crews called 'Just Us Girls' and 'Together We Stand', two very empowering party crew names.
The party scene and backyard gatherings have existed for over decades, and the youth has always found ways to create unique spaces for various reasons- whether it is a survival mechanism, a break from the norm or way of expression. It is very important to honor that history, something I was part of along with many teenage boys and girls.
