Thanks to vast unpopulated natural landscapes, Maine has some of the most pristine night skies on the East Coast US. Every summer I spend a week giving lectures, imaging the night sky, and enjoying nature by day during a camp program named Astronomy Retreat. These events and other so-called star parties, organized world-wide by amateur astronomers, are aimed to reconnect people with the starry sky which is missed in all major cities due to light pollution.
