In honor of National Zookeeper Week, we’re featuring the dedicated professionals who go above and beyond for the animals in our care. “Shipping a double-wattled cassowary—the world’s most dangerous bird—is no easy task. Cassowary can be wary of new items and situations, so staff worked patiently with 28-year-old Earline to ensure she was comfortable inside the crate. After two years of training, she was successfully transferred to the San Antonio Zoo on May 4; Earline has a breeding recommendation and an opportunity to contribute to her species’ survival.
