?? Voici trois détails de la « Frise du transport du bois ». Composée de cinq dalles sculptées représentant le transport du bois, cette frise est une image célèbre du palais du roi assyrien Sargon II à Dur-Sharrukin, près de l’actuel Khorsabad. Cette œuvre originale fait partie des premiers reliefs assyriens connus en Occident. Elle a été maintes fois reproduite pour illustrer divers sujets ; la construction des palais assyriens, le commerce, la civilisation phénicienne, les cèdres du Liban. Made of five carved slabs depicting the transportation of timber, this frieze is a famous work from the palace of the Assyrian King Sargon II in Dur-Sharrukin, present day Khorsabad. It is one of the first Assyrian reliefs known in the West. It has often been reproduced to illustrate various subjects: the construction of Assyrian palaces, trade, Phoenician civilization, and the cedars of Lebanon. Three fantastic creatures, a merman, and two winged bulls are acting as protectors and escort ships with the timber to Assyria.
