This stunning gold wreath was made around 300 BC in what is now modern-day Turkey. It’s constructed in a delicate East Greek style and takes the form of oak leaves and acorns. Oak was sacred to the god Zeus – different plants had associations with different gods. Large numbers of these gold wreaths were left at Greek temples as dedications, and they’ve also been found in burials.
