The early signs of an #algalbloom, tendrils seen here sticking to submerged foliage in North Carolina's #OBX. Blooms are the bi-product of excess nutrients in fresh water, exasperated by phosphates introduced generally through run-off or toxic dumps. Algae grows rapidly in areas were these excess nutrients exist and flourish in the heat. If you're glazing over by now just know that it's a problem world wide, affecting drinking water globally and the longer this problem goes on the worse we will be for it since fresh water is finite! The #barleyprize is offering $10 million dollars to ANYONE that can solve this global issue.
