?? Today is Election Day in Aruba and I shared a little snipped on my instastories urging people to vote for any decent human being that is pro LGBT, cares about the environment, factors in animal rescue (it's a big issue here on the island) and is pro-choice. Sound pretty good, no? Cue people messaging me telling me I'm pro killing babies?? God. WOMEN SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHAT THEY WANT TO DO WITH THEIR OWN BODIES! That this is not obvious to everyone blows my mind. I heard a good analogy while discussing this the other day that explains it so obviously: When a person passes away, you cannot harvest their organs unless they have explicitly given their consent prior to their death. Even though donating organs can save the lives of others - many lives! The list of children and adults in need of a new heart, liver, kidney etc is long. But, and people rarely argue over this: unless the deceased person has given their consent prior to their death you cannot harvest no matter the amount of lives that could have been saved. Arguing pro life and having politicians and policy decide what women can and can't do with their own bodies literally gives women LESS POWER THAN DEAD PEOPLE. I'm not trying to get into a debate about organ donation... But just felt like this was an interesting take on an important issue. Back during the US elections last year when I asked the number one reason women in this community were going to vote for Trump (so many!) the answers I got were almost all related to women being pro-life vs pro-choice. It was the first time I was ever faced with the reality of this issue (in Sweden abortion has been legal since 1938). Just stirring the pot here a little bit in the spirit of the local election where I live but also due to the fire to fight for women's right that was ignited in me during our @109world Women's trip last month. So. Let's talk! But be polite, fuckers? (best shirt everrrr) #prochoice #womensrights #thefutureisfemale #feminism
