Most commonly found in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, western mud snakes like this one photographed at the @okczoo are aquatic and nocturnal reptiles. They hunt for frogs, giant salamanders and eels around stagnant, muddy waters, restraining their prey with their remarkably sharp tails.
