Photo and text by Ben Mikha @BenMikha | Imagine this: You wake up in the Valley Isle of Hawaii, pack your bags and head for the southern coastline. You arrive at a jetty full of idle sail boats, with the blue Pacific ocean ahead and golden volcanic mountains at the back. You climb aboard the first sail boat of the day, set out before the sun hits the horizon and sail into the deep blues of the Pacific. With the occasional manta ray floating by and a pod of dolphins in the distance, you sail towards the South West where a peaked land mass makes an appearance. As you draw nearer, you realise the island is the remnants of what once was an active volcano above sea level, yet now by the hands of time has been swallowed by the blue tides. The peak of the dormant volcano remains and forms a crescent shaped island, home only to an abundance of sea birds, you hear them perking up in the wake of the sun. You pull in right as the sun breaks dawn over the towering Haleakala Mountain Peak in the distance as your captain lowers the anchor. Suddenly, the sun illuminates the turquoise waters of the crater and reveals an abundance of sea life inhabiting the thriving coral reef. You slip on your snorkel, strap on your Under water camera, make a dive for the tropical sun kissed waters of the Pacific and enter an entirely different world with an array of colourful fish. Welcome to Molokini Crater. My favourite place to snorkel in the world, also my favourite place for drone photography so far. We had this crater to ourselves for the first 15 minutes of our excursion, what an experience it was to see clear visibility of an underwater world thriving in an ancient volcanic crater. . . . #crater #scuba #travel #volcano #hawaii #molokini #molokinicrater #storytime #landscape #nature
