The Gooty sapphire ornamental tree spider, or Poecilotheria metallica (?), is a tarantula species found only in a protected deciduous forest in southern India. This species’s venom isn’t fatal to humans but will cause unpleasant effects that last up to a week. And thanks to its fangs--which can reach up to 3/4” in length--even a “dry,” or venomless, bite can be brutal.
