Eek! Bit by a snake? If you’re sure it was a North American pit viper, and you happen to have this 1930 antivenom kit, you’re in luck! ?☠️? The pre-filled syringe was meant to be easily carried and administered in the field. As soon as possible after being bit, get a friend to inject the entire contents in your arm or back. If you’re alone, brace yourself as you inject it under the skin of your thigh or abdomen. Mulford, the manufacturer of this antivenom, recommended that it be kept in every first aid kid, especially at children’s camps and military bases. ??? Readily available antivenom like this one could prevent deaths from snakebite in cases where the only other alternative was to wait and hope. Have an adventurous weekend, history fans, and stay tuned for more stories of #antibody-based medical tech! We’re taking a closer look at antibodies this week since they’re always looking out for us. ???? #HistMed #MedHist #Herpetology #MedicalHistory #AmericanHistory #Antibodies #Snakebite #OutdoorGear #Hiking #PitViper #AntibodiesWeek
