‘The Ming dynasty is very much seen as the golden age of furniture production in China,’ says Marco Almeida, our International Senior Specialist in Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art (@anweida1977).
.
Ming furniture, produced over 400 years, were made for scholars and the elite using precious woods which craftsmen went to great lengths to find. These pieces have really stood the test of time – even influencing designs today.
.
‘These are beautiful objects,’ Almeida continues, ‘but at the core they had to function, to serve a purpose. It’s a great example of beauty and function working together.’
.
