Photo by @Tim Laman A Lesser Bird-of-Paradise creates and explosion of plumes by just shaking his back. This is perhaps the most “classic” species of bird-of-paradise, or Burung Cendrawasih (in Indonesian) because it is so flashy and often readily seen, but it is really just one of around forty species in this incredibly diverse group of birds. I think you can understand why I keep going back to “Lands of the Bird-of-Paradise”, the Eastern parts of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and a little of Australia. This shot was made in the lowland forests of West Papua Province, Indonesia. Right now this region still has large tracts of rain forest left, but it is going to require good planning and stewardship by the people of Indonesia and PNG to safeguard all the birds-of-paradise into the future. #WestPapua, #Indonesia, #IndonesiaBiodiversity, #birdsofparadise, #birdofparadise, #birds
