Gerrit Thomas Rietveld’s ‘Red-Blue Chair’ is arguably the most iconic example of De Stijl outside of painting. The avant-garde movement founded by Piet #Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg in 1917 was built on an aesthetic of primary colors and clear straight lines, and ushered in a new form of abstraction that inspired artists for over a century.
