We have both Us tame or ranch raised foxes and the Russian domesticated foxes. People ask us all the time what the difference is, is there a difference, and does the difference even matter? Well, the Us ranch raised foxes have been selectively bred for fur by the fur farmers. The Russian domesticated foxes have been selectively bred for friendliness towards people in a very controlled scientific manner. It would seem nearly impossible given what we know of genetics and effects of selective breeding for there to be no differences. While, we are not here to discuss the merits of selective breeding, we can share with you first hand the differences between them during our encounters. Behaviorally and genetically there are profound differences between the two, as one would expect given the selection criteria being so different between the two populations. But does it make the Russian domesticated foxes just like dogs? No, why would it- they are foxes and not dogs... so, they act like a domesticated fox, not like a domesticated dog... but do they make amazing pets?? Well, for the vast majority of people, no... and we can share that with people who are considering one, by having them spend time with them. You will learn quickly that they are not dogs and one's life has to be very specific to have one as a pet.... But all that being said, currently the vast majority of foxes are housed in fur farms and live a not so kind life. This occurs for fashion and vanity?? We believe that is hideous, don't you?
