When Ryan and I were 21 years old, he got down on one knee in Central Park and asked me to marry him. We were still in college, eating cold pizza and figuring out life, but I said yes... and 4 months later I became his wife. He had won my heart when I was 16 years old. Young and unsure of life, but we at least wanted to go through it together.

When we were 24 years old, we moved in with my parents to save money while I was finishing up two college degrees. It was there that Ryan and I decided to have a baby. We went down the chute before we had the house, the jobs, the college degree, the plan wasn’t figured out. But the adventure called.

When we were 27, we had the 2-story house, the 2 kids, the union job, the American dream—and we packed up what could fit in a trailer and moved across the country to no house, no job and no insurance. Together, we went down the chute again. Unsure of what life as a new pastor would be like, but we wanted to go through it together.

Every time we go down the chute, is forces me:
To to trust in others.
To find joy and peace in the uncomfortable.
To be okay with the wild journey rather than the destination.
To keep the faith.

Through it we’ve ended up unemployed, on WIC and without health insurance. Yet we’ve also always managed to pay the bills, feed the family, grab a coffee date and stay healthy. It’s grown us closer together and created the opportunity to start my own business, buy a house and travel to incredible places. We’ve created a backyard farm, been a part of an incredible church growth period and are stronger than ever as a family.

I'm not sure where the next waterslide is, but I can guarantee I'll be going down it. How about you?
