Video by @Joel Sartore | Eurasian hawk owls can be quite the noisy neighbors. This particular individual from @zoowroclaw was very calm and inquisitive, but according to his keepers even he can become quite vocal-- especially in springtime. Depending on the situation and whether male or female, their calls are very different. Some are specifically tailored to attract a mate, while others are sharper and more aggressive to defend their territory--or alert to danger.
Happily, in 2017 @ZooWroclaw succeeded in breeding and raising two Eurasian hawk owl chicks, further raising the numbers of this beautiful bird of prey!
