According to the Chinese calendar, Today is the beginning of the year of the dog!! The Chinese calendar has very ancient roots. In numerical terms this year is 4,716 according to the calendar. The New Guinea Singing dog has roots that go back even further!! Brought to New Guinea by Neolithic or perhaps even Paleolithic travelers from the regions that witnessed the dawn of the dog!! Once introduced into NG, these dogs adopted a semi-wild lifestyle- living independently from humans and becoming legends in many tribal cultures. Today, very few of these first dogs remain. They are often called living fossils due to their unique history. JABCECC strives to maintain these magnificent dogs!! Our non-profit is in its infancy, has helped in the rescue of 7 NGSD and had the first Conservation litter based upon genetic matching of the parents. With only 250-300 of them left in captivity and none confirmed remaining in the wild- the Year of the dog is certainly holds special meaning for us!! Help in celebrating man’s BFF!!! .
