Photo by @migeophoto // Autumn is an event in Japan unlike anything I have seen before. Endless lines of locals walk patiently through the trees, snapping portraits of little dogs and families and friends and bridges and shrines. It is a spectacle of joy and color. I spent three weeks in Japan last November, during peak autumn. The orange leaves blend in with the orange gates, red bridges, and architectural accents. In this image, trees bend over a stream that cuts through the area below Kitano Tenman-Gu Shrine in Kyoto. If you look closely, you'll see the red bridge in the distance. The bridge is known as a Guzei and it is supposed to represent the route blessed to take to salvation.The bridge, particularly the bridge over water, represents crossing over from one world to the next, from the profane to the sacred, cleansing yourself to enter the pure world of nature.
