4 things from today: 1. Don’t let anything disqualify you- I held back tears as they counted down the first runners at the starting line...those with hardships I can’t imagine: a blind man holding a friend’s arm, a dad pushing his grown child in a wheelchair. It was beautiful and inspiring. There were a few things along my journey that I almost let disqualify me. Nothing close to what these people had to overcome to get here. If you have a dream don’t give up, sign up, put in the work, find a friend to do it with you, and show up! 2. Encouragement at just the right time is priceless. I was doing really well, beating the pace I set for myself and decided to stop for a bathroom break at mile 7. Standing in the line those few minutes caused my legs to stiffen up, ugh! I was getting down, upset with myself for stopping and messing up the good thing I had going and I turned the corner at mile 9 and Sadie and Laney were there screaming for me. It was THE BEST! I’m going do that better for others. Show up at just the right time with a hug, a smile and word of encouragement. 3. The kindness of strangers and the goodness of God. I loved every single person who got up early to pass out water, made signs and yelled “you’ve got this!” This may sound weird, but people were passing out cold orange slices. I passed them up the first few times but at mile 10 I decided to take one, and it was so sweet and delicious! A simple, instant reminder of God’s good gifts. God is good and so are His people! 4. And finally, there were 30,000 people who ran today. We came from all over the country, different generations, backgrounds, political and religious beliefs, life experiences, but there was this beautiful, unifying thing about everyone laying all of that aside and just running our own race. We all had the same goal of getting to the finish line and we all wanted the person beside us to get there too! We encouraged one another, cheered one another on; we smiled and high-fived total strangers. I loved every second of it! Thank you @stjude for being a light in the world and for putting on this race today! I’ll be back for another one. Who’s with me??
