We were supposed to be in NYC this week but we went on a limb with our intuitive GPS and rainchecked our trip for another week. Instead we’ll be heading to some closer sights in the next few days, one of which is especially meaningful for our family. Lately we’ve been having more of these days of family time. Sometimes it’s been long car rides and other times around a meal where we’ve shared stories about what we’re learning, or excited about, or what we’re struggling through and everything else in between. It’s a space that entails the gift of listening as well as the gift of being heard, and where we can hold up mirrors to remind each other of our roots. Social media is an incredible gift that connects us and is a springboard for inspiration and expression but nothing, absolutely nothing, takes the place of time spent together face-to-face with actual presence. It’s a theme I’ve mentioned a handful of times here but I can’t help where I’m at. April was a month that changed our lives. We’ve been incredibly buffered in tenderness and grace. But our hearts are still on bed rest. You don’t spend a lifetime with someone and then carry on like they were never there. It takes time and time is something we’ve actually allotted ourselves. Whether in rescheduling plans, making changes or making more room for peace much needed. We’re listening to our hearts and turning down the volume on all else. And it’s been healing, restoring and refueling. And it’s changed us. In the best way. It’s a gift he left with us and a reminder of what’s always there.
