Bidding is now open for our From Artist to Woodblock: Japanese Prints Online auction, featuring 167 works by artists including Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige and 20th-century Shin-hanga artists such as Kawase Hasui and Hashiguchi Goyo.

A highlight of the sale is Hiroshige’s ‘Sudden Shower over Shin-Ohashi Bridge and Atake’, one of the artist’s most iconic prints. Vincent van Gogh was so inspired by this work that he created ‘Bridge in the Rain (after Hiroshige)’, now in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
