I created this Proud Parents piece back in 2006 during the Bush Administration as a jab at the seeming shift in the nation’s values. For me, it’s been essential to use my platform as a visual artist to force people to look at things with a more critical eye, rather than through a lazy or apathetic lens. There is a lot of cronyism and nefarious government bargaining with arms dealers and other “defense” contractors so we really need to pay close attention to what’s happening and pressure politicians to place more investment in our future via education rather than feeding the growth of the military industrial complex. We have to remember to question everything and push humanitarian values - Shepard
