Every summer, painter Thomas Wilmer Dewing arranged twilight picnics and participated in theatrical performances with fellow artists and writers in the woods of Cornish, New Hampshire. The artists' colony pursued a "higher life" through art, music and literature.
Dewing's oil painting "Summer" (ca. 1890) is in our @americanartmuseum's collection.
