A lot of people have been asking me to explain pop-ups. It’s basically a temporary shop or art installation, often with branded components, set up seemingly for the main purpose of taking cool Instagram pics. Allie and I both make fun of them and get excited whenever we get an invitation to the next one. I think there’s a line between taking a pic to look like you’re in a cool place and actually being in a cool place. The best pop-ups check off both boxes. Yesterday, we got to preview #29Rooms from @refinery29 which opens today. You can see what it really looks like on my story, although I imagine it will be way different on days it is open to the public, because there will be more people, performances, music and ALCOHOL. Plus, you’re guaranteed to get a really good pic or two. Or at least have a good laugh while you attempt to get cool pics like Allie and me. Some of the rooms also have a big emphasis on activism and human rights (one was even sponsored by the ACLU) which was cool to see. And there were kiosks where you can register to vote, which is a great bonus since I’m sure tons of first time voters will show up. This one is not really geared toward people with kids, although I’m sure they’d love it if you brought them. What do you think of pop-ups? Give me your honest opinion below!
