Edvard Munch created many versions of ‘The Girls on the Bridge’ throughout his career – each time changing the scene, adding new characters, and allowing the girls to age with the passing years.

‘I never make copies of my paintings,’ Munch once stated, stressing that these variations are not the same as repetition. ‘Whenever I have used the same motif again, it has been solely… because it allows me to find out so much more about that motif.’
